1. REACH Registration Thresholds
REACH requires that any company importing chemicals (whether as substances, mixtures, or products containing chemicals) into the EU must ensure that those chemicals are registered with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
Registration Depends on Volume: Registration obligations are based on the total annual tonnage of the chemical being imported into the EU. There are specific thresholds:
1–10 tonnes per year
10–100 tonnes per year
100–1,000 tonnes per year
Over 1,000 tonnes per year
Each threshold has escalating requirements, such as the level of data to be submitted on the chemical’s safety.
